Riverside Medical Group has been committed to steady growth from the original 136-bed facility in 1964 to its current State of health and healing. Today, the hospital is a 300-bed comprehensive hospital serving the community of Kankakee, Iroquois, Will, and Grundy counties in Illinois.
The hospital has also been home to many programs that improve and enhance area residents’ overall mental and physical health. Its Mental Health Services, founded in 1972, now offers inpatient and outpatient services for adults, children, and adolescents, including psychiatric day hospitals, outpatient counseling, and substance abuse treatment.
With a dedication to the highest quality of healthcare, Riverside has invested significantly in the latest technology and equipment. Our advanced imaging systems, from the Mammotone System(r) and Second LookTM System, which significantly strengthen a radiologist’s ability to diagnose breast cancer in its early stages, to a computerized endovascular stent-graft for abdominal aortic aneurysms and much more, ensure patients receive the most up to date and cutting-edge diagnostic care available.
For example, our Total Joint Resources Program, created in collaboration with Orthopedic Associates of Kankakee, gives the advantage of clinical research on cutting-edge surgical techniques for knee and hip replacement combined with a program that helps patients achieve the best possible recovery.
Our Diabetes Self-Management Education program has received a Certificate of Recognition from the American Diabetes Association for meeting national standards, the only certification given to 23 such programs in the State. It has helped countless patients manage their diseases and live fulfilling lives.
Riverside’s Emergency Department has been designated a Level II Trauma Center, guaranteeing immediate availability of specialized surgeons, anesthesiologists, and emergency medicine physicians with advanced trauma training 24 hours a day. It also holds EDAP (Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics) designation so that young patients of all ages can be treated with a wide range of expertise and the most age-appropriate care available.
