The District’s policies and practices are designed to ensure that all students and staff members can safely learn in a school environment that is welcoming, respectful, and free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, and violence.
The District recognizes that each student is responsible for their behaviors, including those that are disruptive, disrespectful, or harmful to the rights and welfare of other students, teachers, and staff members. The District’s Code of Student Conduct provides a framework for addressing student behavior that does not comply with the District’s policies and standards. Disciplinary action will be taken when a student’s behavior is considered a detriment to the educational process or the well-being of others.
All students are expected to attend school regularly. If a student is absent, they must notify the school attendance office as soon as possible so that the absence can be excused. When students return to school, they must sign in and show proper identification to receive credit for the day’s attendance.
The District’s goal is to provide all students with regular feedback about their academic performance, which will be communicated through student report cards. These reports will be distributed approximately four (4) times per year.
These reports will also be available through the Infinite Campus portal to parents and students. The information contained in these reports is intended to inform the student and parent about their progress.
The District is committed to holding students to high academic expectations. This includes a new grading scheme implemented over the next three years. Each student’s final grade will be based on a combination of performance and participation in the academic program. The passing grade will remain the same, but rates may be lowered in certain circumstances as a direct penalty for plagiarism or other academic dishonesty.
The Paterson Public Schools is committed to providing access to technology that will enhance teaching and learning. This includes using electronic communication devices such as cell phones, laptops, tablet computers, and other portable devices to assist students with their academic work.
However, students are encouraged to exercise their right to privacy by not using the device to take, share, or disseminate obscene, pornographic, lewd, or illegal material. The District is committed to providing students with computer equipment, including Chromebooks, for educational purposes only. It is the responsibility of each student and their parent/guardian to comply with all District policies, regulations, and guidelines related to the use of computer equipment.
